Picket-line bij bank
Op Wereldmilieudag protesteren milieugroepen in twintig Europese landen op de stoep van BNP Paribas, de vijfde bank van Europa. Dit vanwege de plannen van de bank om een van Europa's meest omstreden kernreactoren te willen financieren: Belene in Bulgarije. Ook in Amsterdam protesteren op de Herengracht een twintigtal actievoerders van onder andere Friends of the Earth, A Seed en Wise in witte pakken en spandoeken met teksten als 'BNP Paribas: Out of BeleNE!' en 'Kernenergie: Nee bedankt!’. Verschillende andere banken hebben al laten weten af te zien van de investering.
Nucleaire industrie ongewenste gasten
Als officieel ‘side-event’ van de NSS vindt in Amsterdam in de Beurs van Berlage, de Nuclear Industry Summit plaats. De nucleaire industrie kan hier onbekommerd praten over het uitbreiden van hun activiteiten. Tegenstanders snappen er niets meer van: Nucleaire business is toch nucleaire proliferatie? En in Den Haag wordt er juist over gepraat hoe dat te voorkomen. Stoppen met kernenergie is dan toch stap één!. Kernenergie is immers niet de oplossing maar het probleem!
Buiten op de stoep demonstreren bijna honderd mensen dan ook al op maandagmorgen vanaf half acht tegen de bijeenkomst. De vertegenwoordigers van de nucleaire industrie en minister Kamp van Economische Zaken die de bijeenkomst komt openen, kunnen niet voorbij aan de demonstranten en de visuele protesten. Zo word er een immense muur van honderden kartonnen dozen gebouwd, waarop de leus ‘Kernenergie blokkeert duurzaamheid’ verschijnt.
Protest bij Europees kernafval-congres
Activisten van Stop Borssele en Laka demonstreren in Amsterdam tegen een van de vele congressen die over radioactief afval gaan. In dit geval gaat het om een internationaal gezelschap van voornamelijk vertegenwoordigers uit nucleaire industrie en politiek dat gaat praten over publiek participatie bij beslissingen over het vinden van een eindberging voor radioactief afval. Er is bij de demonstranten weinig vertrouwen in de nucleaire industrie als het aankomt op openheid. “Omwonenden van nucleaire installaties willen graag worden geïnformeerd als het misgaat. Maar bij corporate nuclear communication gaat het kennelijk om met veel bombarie te kijken naar publieksparticipatie als men iets van omwonenden wil. Bijvoorbeeld dat ze niet in de weg gaan staan bij het begraven van radioactief afval.” Ze vinden dat er eerst met kernenergie gestopt moet worden: niet dweilen met de kraan open.
